AAE – Animal Assisted Education
Animal Assisted Education (AAE)
Animal Assisted Education (AAE) is the targeted and structured use of animals in an educational setting to support the educational and learning process. AAE focuses on the development of cognitive, emotional, social, and motor skills in children and adults. The animal acts as a motivational and supportive element that increases engagement, reduces stress, and promotes a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
Therapy and interventions are conducted under the guidance of a professionally trained professional (teacher, special educator, or therapist) and with the participation of a suitably prepared and socialized animal, most often a dog, cat, or small mammal. Emphasis is always placed on the safety, well-being, and voluntariness of all participants—both humans and animals.
AAE not only contributes to better motivation for education, but also to increased self-confidence, improved communication and relationship skills. It is suitable for both school and non-school environments and can also be used with people with special educational needs.
