IFA Manifest: Feline Activities & Behavior
The International Felinotherapy Association (IFA) develops an approach to human–cat interaction based on behavioral science, regulation, and respect for the individual needs of the animal.
Core principle:
the welfare of the human, the animal, and the handler is equal and interdependent.
We work with goals that are not prioritized over the welfare of the animal or the stability of the system.
Interaction emerges from a shared state of safety, stability, and regulation.
Principles
-
the animal is not a tool or a means of intervention
-
its behavior is a source of information, not performance
-
welfare is an ongoing state that guides the course of interaction
-
interaction adapts to the animal, not the animal to the system
-
ending the interaction is a legitimate part of the process
Practice
We develop Feline Activities & Behavior as a non-clinical approach applicable in:
-
home environments
-
education
-
support of regulation and well-being
We are not a medical or social service.
We do not replace professional care.
Professional Framework
IFA is grounded in behavioral science and current knowledge of regulation and animal behavior.
The approach is consistent with the principles of organizations such as IAABC.
Positioning
IFA is based on a relational model of interaction.
Outcomes are not enforced—they emerge from conditions that respect all participants.
Definition
Interaction is not driven by goals.
It is guided by the state of the system.
Statement on the Nature of Activities
Feline Activities are non-clinical educational and practical programs focused on feline behavior, welfare, and human–animal interaction (human-animal bond).
They do not constitute a social, medical, or therapeutic service.
The term ‘feline therapy’ is used in its historical context. Our current approach is based on Feline Activities & Behavior.
